Electric Shadows: Contemporary Chinese Film Series

Premiered in the fall of 2014, “Electric Shadows” is a contemporary Chinese film series, which features recent produced Chinese films, ranging from romantic comedy to science fiction. All screenings are free and open to the public.

Fall 2018

Curated by Fang Zhang, CIUM’s annual film series “Electric Shadows” for the fall 2018 presents the most celebrated Chinese artists’ thought-provoking films. Six films will be screened starting on October 7, every Sunday (except for October 14). This year’s film series will premiere Artist Xu Bing’s debut film Dragonfly Eyes (2017) on October 7 at the Michigan Theater Main Hall, with Xu Bing present for a reception and post-screening Q & A. All six  films attempt to address a variety of social, political, and cultural issues of modern time.

*Film Curator:
Fang Zhang is a 2016-17 Hughes Scholar at the U-M Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies. A teacher of contemporary art for a wide range of audiences for the last ten years, her scholarship includes writing, curating and organizing contemporary art exhibitions.
